Am I the only person who finds that four-day workweeks feel longer than they should? Ugh, this week just dragged and I felt like I had no time to get anything done. We had a huge Memorial Day party last Sunday which was a blast. However, the pool I normally swim at was closed for the holiday weekend. As I was still on orders of water-exercise only, no workouts happened.
I hit a major milestone in my stress fracture recovery this week–as of mid-week, biking was allowed again! It doesn’t sound like a big deal, but trust me, it was. I am now officially past the two month mark, and as long as things continue to improve, I should be able to try running again in about four weeks. Fingers crossed!
My exercise plan for this week took advantage of my newfound biking freedom. I have a GT mountain bike that I got for my high school graduation. It’s not very fast, but it’s stable and comfortable and is great for getting from point A to point B (which was my original purpose in getting it). I won’t set any land-speed records on it, but it works.

My bike is far more beat up and not nearly as pretty, but this is what it looked like when it was new.
Here’s what I did this week:
- Wednesday: 51 minutes biking (10.32 miles)
- Thursday: 30 minutes pool running + 30 minutes lap swimming
- Saturday: 30 minutes pool running + 30 minutes lap swimming
- Sunday: 65 minutes biking (13.24 miles)
I’m finally starting to see some improvement in my swimming. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still pretty bad. But my legs aren’t sinking so low behind me and my stroke and breathing are improving as well. I should really be taking advantage of the time that I have for strength training, but I haven’t been. It’s a goal of mine to work on that.
This week I mapped out a training plan to get me from where I am now to running by the end of the month, to ready to start a marathon training plan by mid-August. The problem is, that I need to pay close attention to my leg. I’m under doctor’s orders to immediately back off if I start to have pain. So, even though I’m supposed to be able to start running by the end of the month, I may need to stop and take additional time off if my leg still hurts. As much as I want to run again, dragging this injury out would be far worse than what I’ve had so far.
I go back to the doctor this week…I’ll be happy if he tells me that I going for walks is okay again. I think someone else will be, too…
